Terminology
Common words and terminology in the business of logistics, material handling, and heavy machinery, as well as those specific to X-SPLEX, are explained here.
End User: A business or individual who needs logistics products and/or services. Free Account user.
Seller Member: A business that sells logistics products and/or services to others, including to other Seller Members. This requires a paid membership.
Seller Dealer Member: A business that sells logistics products to others, including to other Seller Members. This requires a paid membership.
Limited Dealer: A business in logistics products and/or services; they can list RFX for free and buy from Seller Members. Free Account user.
RFX is our section where users can post RFQs and related requests for equipment or services they need, free of charge. All members with active accounts can post RFX. But only Seller Members can send proposals to RFX listings.
XS-###: Each sales listing has a specific X-SPLEX ID number, such as XS-486.
RX-###: Each RFX listing has a specific X-SPLEX ID number, such as RX-1011.
RFX Terminology
X-SPLEX's RFX section is available to all members for posting. This is especially helpful for end-users who want sellers to contact them, while retaining their anonymity.
RFQ is a common term in the material handling industry. We use "RFX" as a broad term for anything related to various Request For X, depending on your needs.
When posting an RFX, you have a choice of what type:
RFx = This is a general Request For Buying something, a buyer may use RFX if they are not specific. (RFI, RFP or RFQ).
RFI = Request For Information:
Looking for a consultant to provide information within the industry, work, science, etc. When the buyer needs a professional to plan the needs for a client.
RFP = Request For Proposal:
When a buyer requests a proposal for a possible purchase, it may include items not initially considered, but it will still meet the necessary requirements.
RFQ = Request For Quote:
When the buyer knows precisely what type of purchase they want, they have the specifications of the hardware they are ready to buy.
RFB = Request For Bid:
RFB is an X-SPLEX specific term, meaning someone is seeking a Seller to bid on equipment that needs to be evaluated, sold, or removed as scrap. Only End-users and Sellers can post RFB listings.
X-SPLEX Sales and RFX listings are divided into these basic categories for new and used products and services:
Service Providers: Over 50 types of services can be listed, such as consultants, contractors, and other 3rd party services within logistics.
Freight Services: Several types of ways to transport cargo. Posting an RFX for such services makes it easy for freight brokers or transport companies to contact you.
Heavy Machinery: Typical construction equipment, with over 25 types can be listed for sale or searched for via RFX. This includes machines for digging, lifting, demolition, and material transport, such as excavators, bulldozers, cranes, etc.
Trucks: Over 20 types of commercial trucks can be listed.
Vehicles: Over 15 types of user-driven vehicles can be listed. They are not usually road-legal or used indoors. These include carriers, lifts, and tractors.
Material Handling Group (six categories):
Conveyor (Category): A system of belts or other mechanisms for moving materials, packages, or objects from one point to another.
Decking (Category): Material placed on top of the beams to create a shelf surface.
Forklifts (Category): Over 15 types of forklifts can be found here. Order Pickers, side-loaders, telehandlers, and more.
Racking (Category): Various types of racking can be found here.
Shelving (Category): Industrial-grade listings of shelving.
Structures (Category): Various stationary and moving structures in this industry. Cranes, mezzanines, In-Plant offices, refrigeration, etc.
